The evolution of Toyota safety
Since the inception of Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan our aim has been to create safe and reliable vehicles.
Every day we push our engineering and technology to be better, smarter and safer. In fact you can see how
today’s Toyota Safety Sense builds upon safety features first introduced decades ago.
Safety Technology
No matter what Toyota you buy, know that it's built with safety in mind.
At Toyota, we’re proud to say that every new vehicle in the Toyota range undertakes rigorous testing by the
Australasian New Car Assessment Program, and our results speak for themselves. As we add more innovative
technology to the Toyota Safety Sense suite of features, your Toyota will become even more focused on safety.
Pre-Collision Safety system
Imagine having an extra set of eyes on the road
Using your vehicle’s built-in camera or radar, the Pre-Collision Safety (PCS) system has been designed
to alert you when a frontal collision is likely[S1][J11].
Some new models even feature PCS with Pedestrian Detection (which, depending on your vehicle,
maybe effective during the day and/or at night)[S1][J11] and PCS with Cyclist Detection
(effective during the day only) to help you avoid or reduce the severity of a collision[S1][J11].
Road Sign Assist
Ever passed a road sign and still been unsure what the speed limit is?
Road Sign Assist (RSA) is a smart new safety feature designed to identify certain Australian speed limit signs
and let you know with a visual alert when the speed limit has changed[S1].
Lane Departure Alert and Lane Trace Assist
Sometimes, particularly on long drives, we can lose concentration and end up drifting out of our lane.
Lane Departure Alert (LDA) is programmed to scan the road ahead and identify lane markings,
you’ll get the crucial warning you need if you start to drift[S1].
Ideal for highway driving, Lane Trace Assist (LTA) works with Active Cruise Control (ACC) to observe
road markings and make adjustments to help you maintain your position, by applying extra steering
support and sounding an audible alert[S1].
Active Cruise Control
Cruise control is great for highway driving, but constantly adjusting it to match other drivers isn’t.
Using your Toyota’s built-in camera and front-grille-mounted radar, Active Cruise Control
keeps your vehicle at a pre-selected speed, automatically accelerating and decelerating
with the traffic in front[S1][J11].
Some Toyota models feature All-Speed ACC, allowing you to slow down to 0km/h.
Other select models only feature High-Speed ACC, which is designed to operate
at speeds above 50km/h[J11].
Automatic High Beam
High Beam headlights light your way, but they can be a hazardous distraction to other drivers.
We solved this age old problem with an advanced piece of technology that reduces the need
to manage your headlights manually[S1].
