Winter Tips - Keep Your Vehicle In Top Condition
Chilly mornings, cool evenings, harsh winds and rainy days – yep, it is well and truly winter time.
You might not be surprised to learn that it’s not just us humans that often dislike the cold. While Australia definitely doesn’t get anywhere near as cold as some other countries do in winter, there are a few things to keep in mind to keep your vehicle in top working condition for the remaining cold winter months.
Windscreen Wipers
Make sure your car’s windscreen wipers are in top working condition, as rainy winter days will be dangerous if you can’t see through your windshield properly. Worn windscreen wipers may leave streaks and marks on your windshield, so be sure to replace the wiper rubbers. Replacement wiper rubbers are fairly cheap to buy, and you can easily install them yourself.
Auto fluid
The fluid in your vehicle will not perform as well when they are exposed to the cold. That is because the winter temperatures will thicken up the liquids. That is why you want to make sure that your vehicle’s oil, power steering fluid, antifreeze coolant, brake fluid and transmissions fluids are in good shape. It will be hard for your vehicle to function properly if your vehicle’s fluids are too thick from the cold weather. Check your car fluids during your cold weather auto service.
Car batteries
Cold months are hard on car batteries. The colder temps mean that the car’s fluids are thicker, and hence the battery uses more power to start the engine and get things moving. Conduct a check-up of your battery, and replace it if necessary. Posts and contact terminals should be spotless, with no signs of corrosion, and the battery voltage shouldn’t be running to low.
Sign up for roadside assistance
Nothing’s worse than breaking down in the middle of nowhere in the middle of a cold, stormy night. If your insurance doesn’t include roadside assistance, consider a policy that does offer this service. You’ll be thankful should the worst happen.
Headlights
Dark mornings and evenings are another dangerous hazard in winter, so even though it seems like an obvious one, make sure your headlights and tail lights are all working properly.
In addition to making sure your car is in tip top condition, take extra care to practice safe driving while out on the roads. Don’t drive too close to cars in front of you in dark, stormy or foggy weather (slippery roads and reduced visibility can be a recipe for disaster), and make sure your tyres are fully inflated to the correct pressure with plenty of grip left in the rubber. Of course, regular car maintenance is the key to ensuring your car is in perfect working condition year-round.
Once your car is set for the cool weather, all that’s left to do is to pour yourself a nice hot coffee or thermos of soup to warm yourself up during these cold winter drives!

Waverley Toyota All Abilities Good For Footy Night 2019
St Kilda Star Guides Mazenod Panthers to Victory
St Kilda star midfielder Luke Dunstan has coached the Waverley Toyota Mazenod Panthers All Abilities team to victory over the Mazenod Legends. Luke stepped in as guest coach of the Panthers in their exhibition game over the Legends in an epic contest at Central Reserve under lights on 15th May.
Despite a massive effort from the Mazenod Legends, the Panthers were able to prevail with the final score 5.5.35 to the Panthers against the Legends effort of 2.3.15. in a front of a crowd of approximately 500 people.
Panther’s captain Mark Vanderven said: “It was a great result, we had to work hard to beat the Mazenod Legends. Being coached by a current AFL star in Luke was an experience I will never forget and his insights will help me and all the players improve our footy”.
The exhibition game was played as part of the Toyota Good for Footy round. The game was played to highlight to the local community that anyone with an intellectual disability everyone can play AFL footy if they want to.
Key stakeholders from disability support organisations played a key role on the day setting up pop stands. Participants were provided with job and career support from organisations like Wise Employment, OC Connections, and Kevin Heinze Grow Gardening Centre. Active Monash provided participants with advice on their range of exercise programs for people of all abilities and a great BBQ provided by Fedele’s Ristorante Italiano.
Phil Ryan, Mazenod Panthers President said of the night: “It was great to see Luke and the AFL and Toyota giving back. The attendance by the other stakeholders on the night really showed what the community can do when we put our minds to it. Having the other community organisations come down and support the night really added to the fabric of the night. We are looking forward to an even bigger event/game in future games.”
Luke Dunstan said of the experience: “Getting back to a community footy club like Mazenod was a lot of fun. Being able to share some of my knowledge with local clubs is a great part of being an AFL footballer and it was an absolute pleasure to coach and guide them. It’s only a small time out of my day, but to put smiles on the faces of everyone who took part was great. It was also really awesome to see Mazenod making football available to everyone, including those with a disability, which is a real credit to the club. Local footy clubs like Mazenod are the grass roots of the AFL and I really enjoyed my time with the club.”
When not playing exhibition games the Mazenod Panthers play footy in a Football Integration League with is proudly run by AFL Victoria Disability Program. The Panthers have two teams in the Program with the Seniors playing in Division 2 and the Reserves playing in Division 4.
The exhibition game was only made possible through the considerable support of team sponsor Waverley Toyota. Waverley Toyota Dealer Principal, George Stefanou, added: “Waverley Toyota is a proud supporter of the Mazenod Panthers. We hope to raise awareness as well as encourage more players with all abilities to be involved in football and hope that more companies come on board to support these great non-profit organizations that work so hard to provide players with an environment that promotes fitness, fun, friendship and a sense of belonging”

Kluger Black Edition has arrived at Waverley Toyota
The Kluger Black Edition is dressed to the nines with exterior treatments featuring bold black hues that dial up the attitude – and appeal – of the family-sized seven-seat SUV.
Based on the popular mid-grade GXL, the new arrival is set to turn heads with stylish 19-inch gloss-black alloy wheels and 245/55 tyres, replacing standard 18-inch rims.
Other smart black touches have been applied through the addition of handy roof rails, a large upper grille that straddles a body-coloured bumper, smoked backplates for the headlights and lower side mouldings.
Toyota Australia vice president sales and marketing Sean Hanley said the Kluger Black Edition will enhance the driving experience through its unique styling and design touches.
“Toyota Kluger customers now have another opportunity to distinguish themselves beyond the contemporary design, seven-seat space and handling performance that is synonymous with every Kluger,” Mr Hanley said.
The Black Edition is powered by Kluger’s 218kW/350Nm 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with direct-injection technology for brisk acceleration and overtaking.
With its eight-speed automatic transmission, 2WD Kluger uses just 9.1 litres/100km2 for the GX and mid-spec GXL grades and 9.3 litres/100km2 for top-of-the-range Grande while AWD variants are rated at 9.5 litres/100km2.
Every Kluger is equipped with advanced Toyota Safety Sense3 technologies that help prevent or mitigate a collision in different traffic situations. These include a pre-collision safety system, autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure alert, active cruise control and automatic high beam. Other safety features include seven airbags, reversing camera, blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.
Premium features in the Kluger Black Edition include tri-zone climate control, power tailgate with separate-opening glass hatch, premium seat coverings and door trim, keyless smart entry and start, 12-way power driver’s seat, 8-inch display screen with satellite navigation4, digital radio4, a 4.2-inch multi-information display and rain-sensing wipers.
Last year, Toyota customers bought Kluger in record numbers – a total of 14,743 vehicles representing an increase of 17.9 per cent.
The Kluger Black Edition, like all Kluger SUVs, is covered by Toyota Service Advantage capped-price servicing at a maximum of $180 per service.

Toyota Dream Car Art Contest - Mount Waverley Heights Primary School
Each year, Toyota hosts a contest for young artists to dream up a futuristic vehicle that might offer a solution to the world’s current challenges, called the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest.
Today, Waverley Toyota were very proud of Kirsten Leow, from Mount Waverley Heights Primary School who has been selected as one of 3 winners in her age group in the Toyota’s 13th Annual Dream Car competition out of 3000 entries around Australia.
Her entry is currently at Toyota Japan for final judging to see whether or not she will be titled as the Australian Champion for 2019 (winning an all expenses paid for trip to Japan for two people – the Australian Champion is announced in June)
What stood out about Kirsten’s drawing (apart from her obvious talent) was the positive messaging and creativity to manage a current major issue in our society, particularly in schools – bullying
Kirsten has won a $500 Apple Store gift card and will also be receiving a bunch of colouring product thanks to Faber-Castell.
A special thank you to all the students at Mount Waverley Heights Primary School who entered the competition, especially their amazing Art Teacher, Claire Furlong for her support over the years.
Toyota’s Dream Car competition will be back in November this year, so keep an eye out!
